Installation

Prism for C/AL is a Windows desktop application, delivered as an MSIX package for 64-bit Windows. This page lists what you need, how to install it and what it installs. The MSI setup program installs the 3.x release, which these pages do not describe.

Install Prism for C/AL

You need a 64-bit PC with a Windows version from Windows requirements. On Windows 11, Windows 10 version 1809 or later and Windows Server 2025, Windows App Installer installs the package. Windows Server 2019 and 2022 have no App Installer; see Install on Windows Server 2019–2022. For Windows Server 2016, see Install on Windows Server 2016.

  1. Open the Prism for C/AL download page and download Prism for C/AL.
  2. Open the downloaded file. Windows App Installer shows the package.
  3. Select Install.

Windows installs Prism for C/AL and adds Prism for C/AL to the Start menu. Prism for C/AL opens on the Home page of its main window. To activate a license next, see Activate a license.

Install on Windows Server 2019–2022

Windows Server 2019 and 2022 install the package from PowerShell:

  1. Open the Prism for C/AL download page and download the .msix package.
  2. Copy the downloaded package to the server.
  3. On Windows Server 2019, select Sideload apps or Developer mode in Settings › Update & Security › For developers. Windows Server 2022 needs no setting.
  4. In PowerShell, in the folder where you saved the package, run:
    Add-AppxPackage -Path ".\Prism for CAL 4.0.0.3 Setup x64 Preview.msix"

Windows installs Prism for C/AL and adds Prism for C/AL to the Start menu. Windows Server 2019 and 2022 do not have the font Prism for C/AL draws its icons with; see Install the Segoe Fluent Icons font.

Install on Windows Server 2016

Windows Server 2016 installs MSIX packages through Microsoft's MSIX Core. We have not tested Prism for C/AL 4.0 on it.

  1. Install MSIX Core from its releases on GitHub.
  2. Download the .msix package and copy it to the server, as for Windows Server 2019–2022.
  3. In the folder where you saved the package, run:
    msixmgr.exe -AddPackage ".\Prism for CAL 4.0.0.3 Setup x64 Preview.msix"

Under MSIX Core, the commands StaticalPrismCAL.exe and StaticalPrismCALCmd.exe do not work in a command prompt or PowerShell. Run the command-line tool by its full path, in quotes:

"C:\Program Files\MsixCoreApps\PrismForCAL_4.0.0.3_x64__9e6gzh17hrv2t\bin\StaticalPrismCmd.exe" --help

The folder name holds Prism for C/AL's version, so the path changes with every new version. The MCP Server page of a workspace window shows the path for your installation, ready to copy.

Install the Segoe Fluent Icons font

Prism for C/AL draws its icons with the Segoe Fluent Icons font, which ships with Windows 11. Without it, some icons do not display correctly. The first time Prism for C/AL starts without the font, it opens a text file that says “Some icons will not be displayed correctly if the Segoe Fluent Icons font is not installed.”

  1. Download the Segoe Fluent Icons font from Microsoft, a zip file with the font and its license.
  2. Unzip it, open the font file and select Install.

Microsoft's license does not allow us to distribute the font with Prism for C/AL.

What the package installs

ItemDescription
ApplicationPrism for C/AL, on the Start menu as Prism for C/AL. The command StaticalPrismCAL.exe also starts it.
Command-line toolStaticalPrismCALCmd.exe; see Command-line tool.
.NET runtimeIncluded. The application and the command-line tool bring their own .NET 10 runtime, so you do not install .NET separately.

The license is kept in %LOCALAPPDATA%\Statical\Prism\prism.lic. Windows may redirect that folder for a packaged application, so the command StaticalPrismCALCmd.exe license prints the exact path on your machine.

License

Prism for C/AL is one MSIX package. What it does depends on the license you install:

  • A license: all features.
  • A trial license: all features until the trial ends.
  • No license: Prism runs with limited features.

To install a license or start a trial, see Activate license window and Trial license window.
